Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco has ordered the concerned agencies to check the integrity of the various structures in the city following the earthquakes that hit certain parts of Luzon and Eastern Samar recently.
The local government said Climaco also wants heightened information campaign on disaster preparedness.
She made the order during an emergency meeting Tuesday, April 23, with the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), City Engineer’s Office (CEO), Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), and security and emergency response forces.
“The Mayor tasked the group to conduct evaluation of vulnerable areas and inspection of structures, particularly old buildings and schools, and intensify information dissemination on disaster preparedness in the barangays,” the city government said.
Magnitude 6.1 earthquake jolted some parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, Monday afternoon, April 22, killing at least 16 people.
