Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco has lauded the authorities after intercepting a cargo truck loaded with alleged smuggled cigarettes at a checkpoint in the city Tuesday, July 27.
Personnel from the 74th Infantry Battalion (IB) discovered the 439 cases of alleged smuggled cigarettes at the Divisoria checkpoint around 1 a.m.
The 74th IB squad of the Charlie Company under Task Force Zamboanga coordinated and turned over the confiscated items to Police Station 5 under Zamboanga City Police Office.
The items were subsequently turned over to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition.
“We commend the authorities for their unrelenting commitment to the campaign against smuggling, in support of President Duterte’s war against all forms of illegal activities specifically smuggling,” Climaco said.
