Mayor Climaco cites Zamboanga City’s programs for kids


Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco has renewed her administration’s commitment in protecting the best interest and welfare of the children in the city.

In her virtual 5th State of the Children Report Tuesday, December 1, Climaco noted that Zamboanga City has been a consistent awardee to the highest functionality level-ideal for five consecutive years.

She also said the local government passed the rigorous evaluation of child friendly audit in Region 9 conducted by a team headed by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Despite the pandemic, Climaco said the city has delivered a refresher course to the 98 barangays with health protocols seriously observed during the sessions.

In compliance with Republic Act No. 10410 of the Early Years Act, the city is pursuing efforts to ensure that children have access to early childhood care and development, she said.

She added that to date, all of the city’s 98 barangays have established a child development center with 10 homebased and supervised neighborhoods play in areas not served by the child development centers.
