A couple, with their two children, has surrendered to the military in Bukidnon.
Identified on their aliases, Alay/Cans/Batcom, 28 years old, and Peme, 26, are members of the communist New People’s Army operating in the hinterlands of Cabanglasan, Bukidnon.
They gave up to the 8th Infantry Battalion (8IB), bringing with them their three M16 rifles, Sunday, November 18, said Lt. Col. Ronald Illana, commanding officer of the 8IB.
“We are tired of running away from the government forces and we can no longer endure being cold, the lack of food and frequent movement in the forest with my 6-year old daughter and 4-month old son to evade pursuing Army forces. So we decided to return into the government bringing along three firearms which I consider as the instruments of violence used by the NPA in murdering innocent lumads,” the military said, quoting Alay.
Col. Edgardo de Leon, commander of Army’s 403rd Infantry Brigade and co-chair of the Bukidnon Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP), assured assistance to the couple.
He said Alay and Peme made the right decision as their children are now assured of a better future.
