Marawi Bishop Edwin Dela Peña underscored Thursday (June 1) that Father Terisito “Chito” Suganob” wasn’t voicing his own opinion in a viral video wherein the latter is seen pleading for a halt to military operations in the city.
Dela Peña, in an interview with Brigada News FM Cagayan de Oro, explained that Suganob was just forced by members of the ISIS-linked Maute Group to air such appeal to President Rodrigo Duterte.
The Bishop opined that Suganob’s message in the viral video was “against his own principles” and that the latter is merely being used.
As such, Dela Peña asked authorities to understand the dire situation the priest is in.
It can be recalled that the Maute members, which marched into Marawi last May 23, abducted Suganob and at least 13 others at the Cathedral of St. Mary’s.
Reports said that the terrorists have been killing civilians left and right.
