A homegrown blend of native Maguindanao coffee hailing from South Upi won second place in a competition in Paris last week. Farmers of North and South Upi in Maguindanao and Malibacao Agricultural Cooperative and North Star Upi Coffee, won big, bagging the “Gourmet Argent” (silver) award in the “Puissant Doux” category of the 6th Coffees Roasted at Origin International Contest. Estanislao M. Gepte, Jr., proprietor of North Star Upi Coffee, said the coffee gives a strong kick at the start, and mellows as it cools down.
