Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco said Friday, August 14, that it will be a long weekend next week after the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) declared August 20, Thursday, a Muslim holiday in the country.
Citing the memorandum issued by NCMF Secretary Saidamen B. Pangarungan, Climaco said Amun Jadid or Islamic New Year, one among the recognized Muslim holidays in the country by virtue of Article 169, Presidential Decree No. 1083 (Code of Muslim Personal Laws of the Philippines), falls on August 20.
Pangarungan reminded the Muslim community that the observance of the said festivity shall be strictly done under current health guidelines, particularly the wearing of masks and physical distancing.
Climaco noted that August 21 is also a special non-working holiday in the country in commemoration of the assassination of former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr.
