Rep. Celso Lobregat on Thursday announced he will stand firm in the interest of this city over the passage of the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL).
Lobregat made the announcement as the Senate’s sub-committee on BBL chaired by Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri is set to conduct a public consultation at 2 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 9, 2018) at the Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College (ZCSPC) gymnasium.
Lobregat said he would take the opportunity to inform Zubiri’s committee about the strong and determined stance of the Zamboangeños on the BBL.
“Rest assured I will be there until the very end, fighting for Zamboanga City’s interest, standing firm for what is best for Mindanao, defending the constitution and protecting the republic. I am for peace, I am not anti-peace but I am not for appeasement at the expense of the Republic,” Lobregat said.
Lobregat urged the general public to rally behind him and the local officials “in expressing our strong manifestation of non-inclusion in the proposed Bangsamoro territories”.
He said since there were still contested provisions which were being objected in the recently concluded BBL sub-committee deliberations in Congress where Lobregat was a member, “then those gray areas should be clarified”.
He also said that the assurance of the Senate sub-committee on BBL and the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) was not also enough to justify that this city was not included in the proposed Bangsamoro territories, not unless those pending unconstitutional provisions contested were resolved in the committee level.
“We have discussed BBL working draft in Congress through its four bills being consolidated, and we know what we are doing, we have discussed it provisions by provisions, and I expect the senate also have their own working bill to consider,” he said.
Lobregat is hopeful that the senate sub-committee will take into consideration the strong position of this city on the BBL issue. (PNA)
