Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco announced Tuesday, March 24, the first confirmed case of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Zamboang City.
The local chief executive said this was confirmed by the Department of Health.
The city government said the patient had history of travel from Manila to Zamboanga.
Contact tracing is now being conducted for all those passengers aboard Philippine Airlines flight PR 2993 from Manila to Zamboanga last March 13.
The passengers were urged to call the Health Hotlines at 09661754298 and 975-4802, the local government said.
At the same time, the city government said that the 57-year old patient under investigation (PUI) who died recently was negative for COVID-19.
This was based on the test results from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM), it said.
“Let us continue to pray for the eternal repose of her soul and may God comfort her family as they grieve for their loss,” the local government said.
The patient died at a local hospital on March 21.
“We warn the public against public disclosure of sensitive data of any and all PUIs and PUMs (persons under monitoring) or COVID-19 patients as this is a violation of the Data Privacy Act and violators can be penalized under the law,” the city government said. #
