The local government of Isabela City in Basilan reminded Wednesday, August 5, the residents of the existing ordinance against discrimination of frontliners, coronavirus disease patients and their families.
Authored by Councilor Alan Ritchie Luis B. Biel, Sangguniang Panlungsod Ordinance No. 20-578 entitled Anti-Covid-19 Discrimination was enacted on April 8, 2020.
According to the local law, it is unlawful to publicly claim or post on social media, spread or announce that a person is infected, is under investigation, or monitoring due to Covid-19, regardless if the same has been confirmed or validated from the list given by health authorities or by the Task Force.
The ordinance also prohibits verbal or physical abuse of Covid-19 infected or suspected persons, their immediate family members and relatives; frontliners and health workers.
Patient’s information shall be disclosed or shared to proper health authorities for the sole purpose of contact tracing and other relevant medical purposes.
Any person caught violating the Ordinance shall be fined with P5,000 or imprisonment not exceeding six months or both at the discretion of the court. For public official, the same shall also apply and is also ground for filing administrative case against the official. #
