Iligan City cracks down on stores with defective weighing scales

The city government of Iligan has confiscated 150 defective weighing scales in two public markets during the recent “Operation Timbangan.”

The Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC), along with the other concerned government agencies, launched the operation in the public market of IBJT Tambo and Central Market to check the accuracy of weighing scales and to ensure the protection of consumers against deceptive and unfair sales practices.

“The said activity has monitored a total of 305 stalls wherein there were 159 compliant and 146 non-compliant. Overall, a total of 150 weighing scales were confiscated, while others were found defective,” the city government said.

The Permits and Licenses Division seized the problematic weighing scales and calibrated them before returning to their respective owners, it added.
