Gov’t troops rescue abducted doctor in Sulu

Government forces have rescued a doctor who was kidnapped by the terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group in Sulu.

Col. Ignatius Patrimonio, commander of the 1102nd Infantry Brigade (IB) said that Dr. Daniel Moreno was abandoned by his captors at the hinterlands of Barangay Bangalan, Indanan, Sulu at around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, after sensing the approaching “overwhelming government forces.”

The combined troops of the 1102nd IB and the Philippine National Police (PNP) pursued the fleeing bandits under ASG sub-leader alias Mundi Sawadyaan that led to a 5-minute firefight.

“Acting on the information relayed by a concern citizen, troops of 1102nd Brigade conducted rescue operation,” Patrimonio said.

Moreno has undergone medical check-up and debriefing at the headquarters of the Joint Task Force Sulu.
