Davao de Oro Governor Tyron Uy has canceled the activities for the 22nd Araw ng Davao de Oro supposedly to take place next month due to the threats posed by the new coronavirus, now named as COVID-19.
The local chief executive said that it was “with a heavy heart” to announce the cancellation of the activities lined up for the province’s founding anniversary on March 7-8.
“All activities and celebrations intended for this year’s founding anniversary will be merged instead with the Bulawan Festival 2020,” he said.
The Bulawan Festival will be moved on the last quarter of this year.
Uy decided to call off the activities after the Department of Health issued an advisory that discourages events that will draw big crowds.
“As much as we want to proceed with the scheduled activities, we cannot risk your health, safety and well being, all these remain as our utmost priority,” he said.
“We are asking for your understanding and cooperation on this matter. We believe that no beast is strong enough to shatter us. We are one in this,” the governor added.
