Sulu Governor Abdusakur Tan has expressed opposition on proposal to place the province under martial law following the deadly twin bombings.
“Sinabi ko ayaw ko ng martial law dito sa Sulu,” the governor said during a multi-sectoral meeting Wednesday, August 26.
Tan said he conveyed his opposition to martial law declaration to Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.
Army chief Lt. Gene. Cirilito Sobejana and Philippine National Police chief Gen. Archie Gamboa have sought the imposition of a Sulu-wide martial law.
According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, President Rodrigo Duterte is studying all options.
At least 14 people were killed while over 70 others were injured in the two bombings that rocked Jolo Monday, August 24.
