Sulu Governor Abdusakur Tan has urged the unvaccinated residents in the province to have themselves inoculated against Covid-19.
He made the call as he received his booster shot during the kick-off ceremony on Wednesday, May 11, of the Covid-19 Special Vaccination Days (SVD) in Sulu, which ran until May 13.
“I, myself, was vaccinated with Sinovac two times, boosted once with Pfizer. A few minutes ago, I received my second Pfizer booster to show that this vaccine is safe and effective, with fatwa (Islamic ruling) from our Grand Mufti that it is halal, and moreover, it is free,” Tan said.
Other local officials of the province also got their booster shots.
The Ministry of Health (MOH), Sulu’s Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO), and the local government unit are using three strategies in order to reach the targeted unvaccinated individuals. These are using checkpoints, fixed posts (such as Barangay or Rural Health Stations), and the house-to-house method.
The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), which includes Sulu, has the lowest Covid-19 vaccination rate in the country.
