Gov. Tamayo assures aid for 19 rebel returnees

South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. has assured the 19 former members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) that they would receive financial assistance from the government.

The rebel returnees came from South Cotabato and North Cotabato.

Tamayo said the former rebels would receive firearm remuneration depending on the weapons they surrendered and reintegration assistance.

The government would also provide immediate and livelihood assistance, and financial assistance, among others.

From July to December, about 55 rebels had already abandoned the group and decided to surrender to the government in order to have normal lives, the provincial government said.
