Dinagat Islands Governor Arlene “Kaka” Bag-ao has condemned the brutal killing of Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member Wenefredo Olofernes.
Citing a report, Bag-ao said unidentified riding in tandem gunned down Olofernes who was on his motorcycle with a companion in Surigao City Sunday morning, July 7.
“I condemn in the strongest possible terms the brutal killing of Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member Wenefredo Olofernes,” she said in a statement.
The local chief executive said that the victim did not have any armed personnel with him when the incident happened.
“We are in contact with the Philippine National Police in Surigao City and the Caraga Region in order to provide any assistance in the investigation and to put into the light all the facts surrounding this incident,” Bag-ao said.
She expressed her sympathies to the family, friends, loved ones, staff, and colleagues of the Board Member.
“I, together with the Provincial Government and each and every Dinagatnon, call for justice. We will ensure the speedy resolution of this criminal act along with the prosecution and conviction of all those involved in the death of Board Member Wenefredo Olofernes,” she said.
Olofernes was on his second term in the SP. In the recent May elections, he ran as an Independent and emerged on top of the race in the First Provincial District with 13,141 votes from the Municipalities of Basilisa, Libjo, Loreto, and Tubajon.
