Gigibain na: 600 ‘illegal’ Iloilo City homes may be destroyed due to road expansion

Some 600 “illegal” houses may be demolished in 2019 due to a road expansion project in Iloilo City’s Arevalo district.

The affected houses are from Boulevard in Molo to Calaparan in Arevalo, Engineer Bobby Dumanil of Task Force Anti Squatting and Illegal Structures said.

“Around 600 houses will be affected. And per latest inventory, another 50 new houses were built in the area,” Dumanil told Iloilo-based news site The Daily Guardian’s radio program.

But he added that while the task force has the list of houses to be demolished, it cannot start the demolition until the city can provide a relocation site for those affected.

He said the Department of Public Works and Highways plans to expand the city road from Molo to Arevalo from two to four lanes.
