Female NPA leader surrenders in Misamis Occidental

An alleged leader of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) has surrendered to the military in Misamis Occidental, Western Mindanao Command chief Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr. said Sunday, November 8.

Vinluan identified the female NPA team leader as Mary Grace Tumpad Buhawi, alias Say2x/Princess/Maika, 25, and a resident of Purok 2, Barangay San Lorenzo Ruiz, Sinacaban town.

“She was the Platoon Team Leader of Team Baking, Squad 1, Guerilla Front Sendong, Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee,” he said.

The official said Buhawi surrendered to the troops of the 10th Infantry Battalion at Purok 5, Barangay Katipunan in Sinacaban.

During the initial interrogation, he said Buhawi yielded due to the government troops’ continuous combat operations day and night.

“We are starving because we have limited food supply and we are experiencing a lot of hardships moving from one place to another,” Buhawi said in the local language.
