Ex-solon Chong asks Guevarra to order NBI probe of slain aide

Former Biliran Representative Glenn Chong has asked Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra to order the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate the death of his aide Richard Santillan.

Chong and Santillan’s wife, Jeanette, went to the Department of Justice (DOJ) last Thursday (Jan. 3) to personally hand over her letter request seeking assistance.

Since Guevarra is on vacation in the United States. Mayor Tan, Justice Undersecretary Adrian Sugay met Chong and Jeanette who were both assured that the NBI will handle the case.

“Sabi po ni Usec. Sugay he will call Director Gierran (NBI Director Danter Gierran),” Chong said.

Santillan was killed last Dec. 9 allegedly during a shootout with police after refusing the yield at a police check point in Cainta, Rizal.

However, an autopsy conducted by the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) revealed Santillan was tortured before being killed.

In her letter, Jeanette alleged that after almost one month “the police have persistently refused, despite repeated demands, to release vital reports, documents and evidence to support their version that myb husband was flagged down by operatives of the Highway Patrol Group, Regional Intelligence Unit and the Cainta Police Station in Cainta, Rizal, all under the direct command and instruction of C/SupEdward Carranza, ostensibly because of an expired registration, and thereafter allegedly traded shots with the pursuing officers.”

Jeanette had vowed, through the assistance of the PAO, to file charges against policemen involved in the killing’.
