COTABATO CITY – Retired Cardinal Orlando Quevedo on Thursday alerted the public about spreading text messages soliciting funds for his alleged medication.
In a statement to the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), Cardinal Quevedo stressed that he has not authorized anyone to raise funds for his medication.
He said an unidentified person had been sending text messages to his friends and raising money for his alleged “triple heart bypass operation”.
The retired cardinal shared the supposed text message to CBCP online news.
“Hi. How are you? Tried calling. I am so sorry to disturb you. I am really having second thoughts of messaging you ‘kay maulaw gyud ko’ (I feel ashamed). I just would like to personally ask for help for my hospital bill. I am at the moment scheduled for a triple heart bypass operation,” the text message said.
It added: “Please keep this as a confidential message as only a few people know that I am about to undergo the surgery. Hope to hear from
you soon. Damo gid nga salamat (Many thanks) and God bless!”
Cardinal Quevedo said the text message is a “scam” and he does not have any pending hospital bill. (PNA)
