Duterte OKs law creating Cagayan de Oro City Cultural Center and Museum


President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the law establishing the Cagayan de Oro City Cultural Center and Museum.

Duterte signed Republic Act No. 11771 on Tuesday, May 24, 2022.

The establishment of Cagayan de Oro City Cultural Center and Museum shall serve as the institutional medium for the protection, preservation, presentation, and promotion of the cultural, artistic, archeological, social, historical, religious, and philosophical heritage of the city and its people “in view of the richness of their legacies and their relevance to their contemporary and future aspirations,” the new law said.

The Museum shall be a collaboration between the city government and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCAA) with its concerned affiliated cultural agencies and pertinent academic and private sector partners and members of the community.

The Cagayan de Oro City government shall provide the land necessary for the construction or establishment, or both, of the main venue and ancillary offices and facilities of the Museum.

The NCCA shall initially provide the amount necessary for the implementation of the new law and after which, the budget shall be included in the annual General Appropriations Act.
