President Rodrigo Duterte has signed into law the bill renaming the province of Compostela Valley as the province of Davao de Oro.
Duterte inked Republic Act No. 11297 on the change of name of Compostela Valley on April 17, a copy of which was posted by Governor Tyron Uy on his Facebook page Wednesday, May 22.
“The renaming of the Province of Compostela Valley as the Province of Davao de Oro shall be subject to ratification by a majority of the votes cast by the qualified voters in a plebiscite to be conducted in the present Province of Compostela Valley,” the new law read.
The plebiscite will be conducted and supervised by the Commission on Elections.
With the new law, RA No. 8470, creating the province of Compostela Valley is amended.
The Act shall take effect 15 days after its publication in the Official Gazette or in any newspaper of general circulation.
