Duterte, family OK after powerful tremor in Davao

President Rodrigo Duterte and his family were fine following a strong earthquake that hit Davao del Sur and nearby areas, including Davao City, Malacanang said Sunday, December 15.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that Duterte, along with his daughter Kitty, was in their house in Davao City when the earthquake struck.

Duterte’s long-time partner, Cielito “Honeylet” Avancena, was on her way home when the ground rumbled and trembled, he said.

“She (Avancena) said the car she was riding was swaying. They are unhurt,” Panelo added.

A magnitude 6.9 earthquake rocked Davao del Sur and nearby areas at 2:11 p.m. According to the Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), Davao City was under Intensity V.
