Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will seek reelection as she will not be running for the Senate in the 2019 midterm polls, an official of her regional party said Monday.
Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) Secretary General Anthony del Rosario told reporters in Paranaque City that they have discussed with the presidential daughter about her political plans and she said that she has much work to do for her constituents in Davao.
“We’ve talked about this several times, definitely she’s not running for the Senate,” he said.
They also did not discuss about Duterte-Carpio running for president in the 2022 polls.
Based on the Pulse Asia survey in June, Duterte-Carpio has been on the top five preferred senatorial bets among the Filipinos if elections were to be held when the survey was conducted.
Duterte-Carpio has succeeded her father, President Rodrigo Duterte as mayor of Davao City.
The President had been mayor or vice mayor of Davao City for about 23 years.
