President Rodrigo Duterte will visit Cotabato City, the seat of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, on Saturday to oversee programs against poverty and hunger.
Representatives of key agencies are expected to be part of the presidential party and would assess the region’s situation, NDBC News reported.
They will determine which programs should be strengthened, and whether new projects are necessary.
ARMM Governor Mujiv Hataman said Duterte had expressed his intention to help the region’s drive against poverty and hunger.
Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show ARMM is the poorest region in the country with poverty incidence of 53.4 percent, with Lanao del Sur at 70.2 percent and Sulu at 61.8 percent.
The regional government’s concerns include peace and order, are food security and poverty. Its 12 agencies on the forefront of the fight against poverty include:
