DOT wants to step up tourism in Mindanao

Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Wanda Teo wants to refuel the tourism industry in Davao and Zamboanga Peninsula regions in Mindanao.

The tourism secretary directed the DOT regional offices to utilize the P5-million fund for tourism-related projects in order to improve connections with foreign markets and upgrade travel and accommodation services.

Teo said the department, in coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways, will prioritize the construction and rehab of road leading to the tourist destinations in Mindanao.

For instance, the Zamboanga International Airport is being eyed as the new home of Duty Free Philippines. Region IX is also being prepared to stage more international and national events.
