Welcome back to school — sort of — as the mayor has ordered residents to present identification documents before entering the premises of Zamboanga City.
Sounds too strict? But Mayor Beng Climaco said it is for Zamboangeños own good.
“The move is part of the stepped-up security measures to ensure safety and protection of civilians,” she said on Friday.
The mayor said the “no ID, no entry” policy was recommended by police and military after the President declared the whole island of Mindanao under martial law on Tuesday.
The move was made after the military engaged members of the Maute group in Marawi City, more than 400 kilometers northeast of Zamboanga City. At least 40 people were reported dead.
Climaco advised residents and travelers to carry with their IDs at all times. Lanyards are optional.
