Davao City spends at least P476M for Covid-19 response


Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has said the local government has spent at least P476 million for its response efforts against coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

The local chief executive said the fund mainly came from the national government’s allocation as mandated by the Bayanihan Heal As One Act and was equivalent to one month Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) of the city.

Apart from the said amount, the city government is also getting funds from its current budget.

Duterte-Carpio has also donated her one-year salary to a trust fund to help medical workers acquiring the disease from their work.

She said the biggest chunk of the city’s expenses goes to food, including rations to residents.

Since the food rationing started on March 23 until May 8, the city has already distributed a total of 788,656 food packs.

The city government has been shouldering also hospital expenses of Covid-19 patients and the cremation of those who died due to coronavirus.
