Davao City ready to help stranded non-residents return to their homes

The Davao City government is willing to assist the stranded individuals in the city to return to their respective places if they will be allowed entry by their local governments.

“Wala mi problema nga mugawas mo og Davao City. We can assist you nga mugawas og Davao City but please make sure nga dawaton mo didto sa lugar na paulian ninyo (We have no problem if you go outside Davao City. We can assist you but please make sure that you are allowed to enter the areas where you are returning home),” Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said Saturday, April 25.

She assured individuals stranded in Davao City that they will be provided the contact details where to seeks assistance for their return.

As to the stranded Dabawenyos outside the region, Duterte-Carpio said they could not be assisted to enter the city yet because the national government has only opened airports and seaports for the movement of goods.

She said the city government initially prepared teams and a system to help stranded Dabawenyos outside the region to return home to Davao City.

But the plan has to be set aside after the national government placed Davao City and several other cities and provinces under an extended Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) until May 15 due to high number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, she said.

The mayor said Davao City has to comply with the national government’s guidelines.
