Davao City LGU heightens visibility as more health protocol violators nabbed

The Davao City government has strengthened its enforcement of Covid-19 protocols through increased personnel visibility as hundreds more people have been apprehended for failure to wear face masks and observe proper social distancing.

Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) Chief, Retired Police Lt. Col. Angel Sumagaysay said Wednesday, January 12, that from 62,902 face mask violators on Dec. 31, 2021, the number surged to 63,531 as of Jan. 8, 2022, while the number of social distancing/mass gathering violators increased from 43,957 on Dec. 31, 2021, to 44,360 on Jan. 8, 2022.

“We reiterate and remind our enforcement cluster to implement the COVID-19 guidelines due to the new variant. It seems our COVID-19 cases are increasing based on the presentation of Dr. Ashley Lopez of the City Health Office (CHO),” Sumagaysay said.

He said that some Dabawenyos may have forgotten that wearing of face mask and social distancing are strictly being enforced in the city.

The official said the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) also issues citation tickets to erring public utility vehicles (PUV) drivers who continue taking on passengers despite violating the physical distancing protocol.
