The Davao City government and China’s municipality of Chongqing have agreed to forge a sisterhood agreement to boost their relations.
Vice Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Davao City while Vice Mayor Xiong Xue inked the deal for Chongqing Municipality recently in Chongqing.
The City Council passed a resolution authorizing the vice mayor to enter the deal on behalf of Davao City.
Davao City Investment and Promotion Center (DCIPC) head April Marie Dayap said the MoU serves as an understanding between the city of Davao and Chongqing for an exchange, exploration, and partnership between the two areas.
Dayap said Chongqing agreed that Davao would decide which area in the city to explore.
“They let us decide on what will be the center of the sister city agreement. They will wait for our decision and then we will sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA),” she said.
If the MOA is pursued, Chongqing will be the third sister city of Davao City in China. The other two are Jinjang and Nanning.
