The city government of Davao has ordered the demolition team to clear all sidewalks, especially near schools to keep children safe from road accident.
City Ancillary Service Unit (ASU) chief Paul Bermejo noted the proliferation of sidewalk vendors selling school supplies, toys, and food since the school opening.
“Only vendors who were already regulated and profiled by our office can stay on the sidewalks,” he said.
The city government has only allowed vendors to use sidewalks provided they observe the 1/3 -2/3 policy. The 2/3 should be the space for the people.
Bermejo said two demolition teams will work in shifts to monitor and tear down structures or confiscate items that transgress pathways.
“They are not allowed to stay there (pathways), especially if they will leave their things on the sidewalk. If we will apprehend them for the third time, we will really confiscate their items, we will no longer return it to them,” he said.
