About 700 backyard hog raisers in the Island Garden City of Samal have received financial aid after their pigs were confiscated due to African swine fever (ASF).
The city government said 319 hog raisers from Sta. Cruz, 55 from Barangay Linosutan, 109 from Barangay Dadatan, and 219 from Barangay Cogon got P1,000 for each of the pig confiscated from them.
“Each of the hog farmers was validated by the census team of the City Veterinary Office and was obliged to submit the necessary documents: oath of undertaking, consolidated reports, and culling forms,” it said.
The cash payout was conducted Tuesday, December 21.
City Veterinary Office (CTO) head Dr. Edunel C. Sala said the CTO will strive to make Talicud Island an ASF-free zone for the backyard hog raiser farmers in order to resume their livelihood.
