DA reports first ASF case in Iligan City backyard farms

The Department of Agriculture (DA) has confirmed the first case of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the backyard farms in Barangay Pugaan in Iligan City.

DA-Regional Field Office (RFO) 10 Executive Director Carlene C. Collado said serum specimens submitted by the City Veterinary Office of Iligan City were subjected to laboratory test for ASF.

“Laboratory result showed ASF viral DNA detected (POSITIVE) from the samples collected,” Collado said.

Coordination and ground activities to contain the disease were conducted with the Regional ASF Task Force and Iligan City local government.

“Rest assured, the Regional ASF Task Force, concerned LGUs, hog industry and other stakeholders are doing their best to manage, contain and control this viral disease,” Collado said.
