DA assures sufficient pork supply in Soccsksargen

The Department of Agriculture (DA)-Region 12 has assured that there is enough pork supply in Soccsksargen amid confirmed African Swine Fever (ASF) cases and reported shortage in Luzon.

DA 12 Regional Executive Director Arlan Mangelen and Benny Lim of South Cotabato Swine Producers’ Association (SOCOSPA), in a meeting Monday, August 3, assured ample supply of pork in the region adding that at least 45,000 to 50,000 heads are being shipped out monthly via General Santos City and Davao City through sea shipping to Leyte and Metro Manila.

Mangelen reported to DA Undersecretary Zamzamin Ampatuan in a video conference with other DA officials, that the shipments encountered no problem in bringing pork to the Visayas and Luzon so far.

Ampatuan has instructed regional offices to create a plan that would address any problem that may arise in the future and create an efficient strategy in shipping pork outside Mindanao.
