Residents of Compostela Valley have overwhelmingly voted to rename the province to Davao de Oro.
“Officially, we are Davao de Oro,” said Governor Tyron Uy on his Facebook page.
Citing the final results of the plebiscite held Saturday, December 11, Uy said that 174,442 or 97 percent of the voters in the province voted “Yes” to rename Compostela Valley to Davao de Oro.
Only 3 percent or 5,020 voted “No,” he said.
The plebiscite was held following the passage of Republic Act No. 11297, changing the name of Compostela Valley to Davao de Oro.
Uy, who pushed hard for the renaming of the province, earlier expressed belief that the province would be more progressive once it becomes Davao de Oro as more investors are expected to come in.
He has noted that while Compostela Valley belongs to Davao region, it was the only province that did not have Davao in its name.
