CM Ebrahim to run in Bangsamoro Parliament in 2022 polls if BTA won’t be extended

Bangsamoro government Chief Minister Ahod “Al Haj Murad” Ebrahim said he will run for the regional parliament in next year’s elections should the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) not be extended until 2025.

The BTA led by Ebrahim has been asking President Rodrigo Duterte and the Congress to amend the Bangsamoro Organic Law and allow the transition period supposedly to expire next year to be prolonged by another three years.

“We will be running for the position of Parliament Member. Kasi ang pagbubotohan lang sa BARMM (Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao) is iyong parliament. Ang Chief Minister po ay—ang buboto po ng Chief Minister ay iyong mga nanalong member ng parliament. So kailangan lang na member ka ng parliament and then the majority of the member of the parliament will elect who will be the Chief Minister,” he said.

“So, I will still be opting to run as member of the parliament,” Ebrahim added.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that Duterte has been “neutral” on the call to extend the transition period in BARMM.
