The mayor of Cagayan de Oro City has asked its residents to remain calm and vigilant, amid the ongoing terrorist takeover in Marawi.
On a Facebook post by CDO public information officer Maricel Casino-Rivera, Mayor Oscar Moreno urged village leaders to report to police any suspicious activities in the city on Monday evening.
“To our brethrens in Marawi and neighboring communities, I call for restraint and faithful adherence to peace,” said Moreno, who also sits as the regional chair of peace and order council of Northern Mindanao.
“Let us not divert from the road of peace and development.”
He said security agencies CDO and Region X are in full alert, with checkpoints placed in strategic areas of the region.
In Marawi City, 100 kilometers north of CDO, military and police are exchanging fires with members of the Maute group, which swore allegiance to international terrorist group, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.
