Bishop wants culture of peace in school curriculum

A Mindanao-based Catholic bishop wants the culture of peace included in the school curriculum, to ensure young Filipinos realize the value of peace.

Cagayan de Oro Archbishop Antonio Ledesma made this call at the 75th National Convention of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines in Cebu City.

“Inaasahan ko nga na sa loob ng curriculum natin mapag–usapan din natin itong formation of culture of peace towards a just peace for everyone, because these really means peace with social justice and peace for everyone,” he said on Church-run Radyo Veritas.

He said Catholic schools can play a major role in instilling in pupils the ideals of peace, including love for the poor, peace and the environment.

Ledesma said there are six dimensions that will start with the individual, personal and family integrity, then goes on with the respect on human life and social justice and also of the eradication of poverty.

“It will also move into intercultural understanding and also the cessation of hostilities and also for the care of environment,” he said.
