Attention, Bato: Iloilo cop accused of abusing drug suspect

Philippine National Police chief Ronald dela Rosa may want to look into this: a policeman in Iloilo City is accused of sexually abusing a female suspected drug pusher.

The suspect, 32, a single mother with four children, lodged a complaint last June 4 against PO1 Mark Ken Canillo, 30.

Canillo, who joined the police force in 2011, is a member of the Jaro police’s Station Drug Enforcement Team .

Following the complaint, Jaro police chief Senior Inspector Tranquilino Querubin ordered Canillo restricted inside their station.

For his part, Iloilo City police chief Senior Superintendent Remus Zacharias Canieso ordered Canillo’s relief from Jaro to the Iloilo City Public Safety Company.

In her complaint, the suspect said the incident occurred at 9 p.m. of June 2 inside her house in Jaro district, when she mistook Canillo for a neighbor and greeted him.

She said Canillo ordered her to go to her house, then turn off her mobile phone off before threatening to subject her to a drug buy-bust operation.

Once inside the house, she said Canillo exposed his penis and told her to perform oral sex, refusing her pleas. He allegedly threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

Worse, the suspect said she was ashamed because two of her children aged 9 and 13 believed she had sex with Canillo.

Meanwhile, the suspect was released from detention after posting bail. Her husband is believed to be a victim of summary execution, his body being found in Barangay Banuyao in La Paz, Iloilo City last Jan. 20.

Her husband was in the Barangay Anti-Drugs Abuse Council (BADAC) watchlist of suspected drug peddlers.
