Some 3,000 farmers in Maguindanao stand to benefit from two multipurpose solar drying pavements worth P400,000 each, from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao’s Humanitarian and Development Assistance Program.
The ARMM said it turned over the units to cooperatives in Barangays Poblacion and Dado in Datu Piang town in Maguindanao.
Datu Piang town agriculture officer Sonora Dagadas said the drying pavements are open to all farmers, and will be a big help to them (https://armm.gov.ph/hdap-armm-turns-drying-facilities-farmers-maguindanao/).
Each 18-by-30-meter solar drying pavement can dry as many as 50 sacks of rice, coconut, or corn.
Beneficiary-farmers in Datu Piang are members of cooperatives that own the land where the solar drying pavements were constructed.
The ARMM noted the cooperatives donated the pavement sites to help their members.
Saida Ungkakay, 60, chairman of the Farmers Association Cooperative in Brgy. Poblacion, said the money they pay for rent can now be used for other items such as milling rice.
Work started on the two projects in 2016, and finished in 2017.
Meanwhile, 18 more solar drying units were also built in Talayan, Guindulungan, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Shariff Saydona Mustapha, and Mamasapano towns.
