A suspected member of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) was killed in a clash with the government troops in Zamboanga del Sur.

Col. Leonel Nicolas of the 102nd Infantry Brigade said Tuesday, June 30, that the troops from the 97th, 42nd, and 53rd Infantry Battalion encountered the rebels in Barangay Piwan, Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur in the afternoon of June 28.

“The 25-minute firefight also resulted in the recovery of one M14 assault rifle, four anti-personnel mine, one hand grenade, one rifle grenade, magazines, and ammunition,” he said.
