Banking on the presence of the world-class Boracay resort, the Aklan provincial government is expecting around two million foreign and local tourists to visit them this 2017.
This 300,000 more than the 1.7 million attained in 2016.
First in the list of top 10 foreign arrivals are South Korea with 292, 869; China, 259, 439; Taiwan, 53, 208; Malaysia, 24, 465; United States of America, 21, 274; Australia, 14, 883; United Kingdom, 14, 397; Australia, 11, 978; Russia, 9,834 and Singapore, 9,724, according to a report from the PNA.
Niven Maquirang, Jetty Port administrator, said they anticipate an influx of tourists coming this year as Boracay is considered an official venue for the 50th year ASEAN Summit in the first quarter.
Report said around four meetings of both senior and ministerial officials are being allocated.
“Boracay also remains to be considered a cruise ship tourist destination in Asia-Pacific,” Maquirang added.
