Agusan del Norte Rep. Lawrence Fortun has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a Facebook post, Fortun said he received the result last January 11.

“I am in isolation at the moment following the protocols set by the local government of Butuan City and the Department of Health,” Fortun said.

“I shall, however, continue to discharge the functions of my office and will be in constant coordination with our legislative office in Manila and the District Constituency Office in Butuan.”

He experienced some nasal irritation, sore throat and mild erratic muscle pains, the reason he decided to have a test.

“My family and I have been very cautious and diligent in taking necessary precautionary measures to avoid contracting COVID 19, but I was still not spared from infection,” he said.

Fortun urged those who had close contact with him in the last few days to closely monitor themselves and immediately inform the City Health Office or DOH should they develop symptoms of COVID-19.

He also urged everyone to be vaccinated against COVID-19, have the booster vaccine when appropriate, and get tested when experiencing symptoms or as required by policies and guidelines.

“Please exercise caution in your own homes, workplaces, and communities,” he added.
