Abu Sayaff member recaptured after almost 10 years in Zamboanga Sibugay


A fugitive member of the terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group was captured in Zamboanga Sibugay after almost 10 years since he escaped from jail.

Police Brigadier General Emmanuel Luis D. Licup, Police Regional Office (PRO) 9 Director, identified the arrested ASG member as Abubakar Yakub, alias Jhan Que Lahi, who was nabbed by the police and military during a law enforcement operation at Sitio Looc Sural, Barangay Looc Labuan in Tungawan town at about 4:00 a.m. Sunday, May 12.

Yakub was previously arrested for the crime of kidnapping and serious illegal detention.

He was one of the 31 detainees who escaped during the jailbreak in Basilan Provincial Jail, Brgy. Sumagdang, Isabela City on December 13, 2009 and a member of the ASG under the control of Janjalani who was also involved in a series of kidnapping operations.
