Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, chair of regional political party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), denied Tuesday, March 12, that she is avoiding Bicol Region when she decided not to join in the campaign sorties of HNP’s backed senatorial candidates.
Bicol is a known bailiwick of Vice President Leni Robredo.
“I am not avoiding the places, we have very solid local partners in Camarines Norte, Camsur and Legaspi,” the presidential daughter said.
Sebastian “Baste” Duterte has temporarily taken over his sister in the campaign rallies.
“If I have a choice, I will not request my brother to campaign in an area that is perceived to be the bailiwick of a critic of PRD (President Rodrigo Duterte) because I will never put my brother in a precarious situation,” Carpio said.
She reiterated that she could not join in the campaign rallies in Bicol because she has an “immediate family member issue and the reason for my coming home to Davao deserves his right to privacy.”
Carpio earlier slammed Robredo after contradicting her from what she has said that honesty should not be a campaign issue right now for those running for public office.
