Seven alleged members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) have surrendered to authorities in Valencia City.
According to the Army’s 8th Infantry Battalion, among those who surrendered were couple alias “Jamby,” secretary-general of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP)-NPA’s GF6 or so-called Bukidnon Command, and her husband alias “Jigger,” commander of GF’s Front Operational Command.
Quoting the two high-ranking NPA commanders, the military said that the loss of mass base trapped them in the mountains, forcing them to give up their struggle.
The Maoist rebels surrendered through the efforts of Representative Rogelio Neil Roque and other Valencia City local officials.
Major General France Nemesio Gacal, commander of the 4th Infantry Division, said the surrender was a “real big blow” in the rebel group in the region.
