The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) disclosed Monday that 46 village officials from Mindanao were allegedly involved in illegal drugs.
PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino released to the media the 207 barangay captains and councilors who were included in the government’s narco-list.
Out of the 46 officials in Mindanao, 26 were barangay captains and the rest were kagawads.
The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao has the highest number of village officials allegedly involved in illegal drugs – 11 barangay captains and one councilor. The region also ranked third nationwide, next to Region 5, with 70 officials, and Cordillera Administrative Region with 34 officials.
The other regions in Mindanao, which have narco-politicians at the barangay level were Region 9 with 4 brangay captains and 3 councilors; Region 10 with three barangay captains and eight councilors; Region 11 with 1 barangay captain and two councilors; Region 12 with six barangay captains and six councilors; and Region 13 with one barangay captain.
Aquino said the village officials allegedly involved in illegal drugs will face appropriate charges in court.
