40 ex-Abu Sayyaf bandits receive housing units in Basilan

The government has granted new houses to 40 former Abu Sayyaf members in Basilan, the military said.

Outgoing Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Gov. Mujiv Hataman, Colonel Fernando Reyeg of the Joint Task Force Basilan, and Soler Undug of the Basilan District Engineering Office (BDEO) led the turnover of the housing units located at Tipo-Tipo town in a ceremony Saturday, February 16.

Through the Program against Violent Extremism, the houses were constructed by the ARMM-Bangsamoro Regional Inclusive Development for Growth and Empowerment under the supervision of the BDEO.

Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, the commander of the Western Mindanao Command, said the grant reflects the commitment of the government and other stakeholders in expediting the reintegration of Abu Sayyaf members who returned to the folds of the law.
